TARGET
1. Introduction
There are millions of orphan and vulnerable children (OVC) in South Africa, who are experiencing great difficulties and hardships due to poverty and HIV AIDS. HUDA SA partners with an NPO called Imaani Trust to establish an integrated Islamic Development program for the OVC by establishing a Family Village in Umbumbulu. This will be the flagship project of HUDA SA and it will be called the Imaani Family Village.

Definition of Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC):
A child / children with -

no parents as either both passed away or abandoned them.

a widowed mother as father passed away.

a mother as father abandoned family.
Definition of Vulnerable Children: A child / children with -

a father who cannot take care of them.

Both parents who cannot take care of them.
Orphan and Vulnerable (OVC) Beneficiaries:
The OVC will be from families that fall into the 4 categories as mentioned in Quran in reference to Zakah beneficiaries; all of which are “essentially” in need -

The poverty stricken. [Essential Need]

The destitute, who do not have enough to suffice for themselves. [Essential Need]

Prisoners and Slaves whose freedom needed to be bought. [Essential Need]

Those striving in the path of Allah to uplift the Deen. [Situational Need]
House mothers: House mothers will be trained and mentored. Widows with 1 / 2 of their own biological children will be considered.
Number of OVC: The family village will support and take care of 40 OVC with excellence, love and kindness.
Eco Friendly African Village Integrated to serve the Community: The Village be built with the concept of an African theme and eco-friendly. It will also provide services to the OVC from the surrounding community. The community will also benefit in certain projects. This will make the Village part of the community and build strong good relationships.
Village OVC: For this proposal, we will refer to the OVC living at the Family Village as Village OVC.
Community OVC: And we will refer to the OVC living in the surrounding area of Umbumbulu as Community OVC.
2. Current Structures & Programs on Site
Musjid: A Musjid has been built on the site with the males and females’ sections for Salaah, toilets, shower facility and classroom.
Wellness Centre – A Wellness Centre has been established.
Preschool and crèche: A preschool and crèche is currently being run from the
classroom.
3. Future Plans for Imaani Family Village
Please find below planned structures that will be built and programs and projects that we intend coordinating at the Family Village.
A Cottage for a family – The concept of the family village is to promote the Institution of family as it is an important building principle in Islam in building a united and constructive Ummah. So, the OVC will be moved from the dormitory section (ladies’ section of Musjid) and accommodated into a ‘family home’ with a house mother. Initially, 5 Family cottages will be built and each cottage will accommodate 8 OVC. Thus providing the Village OVC with a safe and loving family environment shelter. The 6th Family Cottage will accommodate the manager and his family.
Each cottage will be built with 3 bedrooms – 1 room with bed and built in cupboards for house mother and 2 rooms with each room accommodating 4 OVC with 2 double bunks and built in cupboards; 2 bathrooms with toilets; additional toilet only, and an open plan kitchen with dining room. Each home will be fitted with a solar water heating system.
Rain Harvesting – All homes will have tanks linked to its gutter system this accumulating water.
Communal play area – the houses will be built in a cluster with a communal play area.
Eco Friendly - The cottages will be built with an African theme and environmentally friendly like solar geysers.
Nutrition projects – The Village OVC will be provided with 3 nutritional meals: breakfast, lunch and supper within their homes.
A Community Hall will be built next to Musjid and will entail:

A Hall with Kitchen that will generate income for Village as it will be let out to community for functions;
